If the BAFA Senior
Playoffs were today…
There is still a lot of football to be played this season,
and some great games coming up that will have a huge bearing on seeding as well
as who gets in, and who misses out. Some Conferences are proving to be very
exciting as teams win one week and drop a game the next. The SFC 1 is probably
the best example of that so far.
Given that the season is staggered in a way that not many
teams have played the same amount of games within their divisions, it gets a
bit muddied. As it stands though not one team is officially eliminated and only
one team is locked into the playoffs. Here though is how the postseason would
look if the season ended today.
PREMIER
TAMWORTH PHOENIX v LONDON BLITZ
LONDON WARRIORS v LANCASHIRE WOLVERINES
The Phoenix are in the box seat at 5-0, but Lancashire have
come on this season and at 5-1 are ready to take the top spot in the North. If
either slip up then East Kilbride are ready to take the scraps but at 3-2 they
are very much on the outside looking in. In the South it’s a case of the usual
suspects, and even the third place team Olympians will be looking for a small
miracle to break the monopoly held by the Warriors and Blitz.
NORTH CONFERENCE ONE
MERSEYSIDE NIGHTHAWKS v CLYDE VALLEY BLACKHAWKS
EDINBURGH WOLVES v GATESHEAD SENATORS
Top seed here should be between the Nighthawks and Wolves,
but any drop in form could see Gateshead sneak in and get a home game. Clyde
Valley are looking a bit indifferent and the only outside challenge will likely
be from the 3-3 Notts Caesars.
SOUTH CONFERENCE ONE
FARNHAM KNIGHTS v COLCHESTER GLADIATORS
SOLENT THRASHERS v OUSE VALLEY EAGLES
Farnham and Solent have risen to the top here and should be
locks for the top two places, a rejuvenated Colchester have forced their way in
over Birmingham who will be looking to finish the season strong. Ouse Valley
are consistent enough to stay in the postseason hunt.
NORTH CONFERENCE TWO
MANCHESTER TITANS v HALTON SPARTANS
SANDWELL STEELERS v LEICESTER FALCONS
WEST COAST TROJANS v PETERBORUGH SAXONS
NEWCASTLE VIKINGS v STAFFORDSHIRE SURGE
Top seed in this Conference will probably come down to the
tiebreaking procedures as Manchester, Sandwell and West Coast all look
unbeatable at this stage, but they all come up against the teams in second in
their respective divisions yet – so there is chance for change. Leicester and
Halton will be looking over their shoulders if they slip up, and Crewe,
Glasgow, Lincolnshire and Aberdeen could still make the party.
SOUTH CONFERENCE TWO
KENT EXILES v WEMBLEY STALLIONS
BURY SAINTS v CORNISH SHARKS
OXFORD SAINTS v BRISTOL APACHE
SUSSEX THUNDER v LONDON HORNETS
Kent are he first team to book their postseason berth, this
is down to their great form and being in a weak division which has seen lots of
one sided scores. Bury are also in great shape and should wrap up at least the
number two seed. Oxford look good for the playoffs as do Sussex and the
Hornets. The Apache have come off a slow start and should get into the
playoffs, and at the moment the Sharks and Stallions are in, but Swindon, Blitz
B and the Essex Spartans are waiting in the wings.
